LAPD officers arrest 2 after lengthy pursuit of assault with deadly weapon suspect
Two people were arrested following a lengthy pursuit throughout Los Angeles on Sunday evening.
It's unclear where the pursuit began, but Los Angeles Police Department officers told CBS News Los Angeles that the suspect was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon. They did not disclose details of that incident as the chase continued.
With SkyCal following along, Los Angeles Police Department officers could be seen behind the suspect, in a white sedan, as they drove through downtown neighborhoods.
As the suspect continued driving towards South Los Angeles, they were seen driving at various speeds, sometimes at a slow pace and sometimes exceeding the speed limit. They ran through multiple stop lights and sometimes drove on the wrong side of the road to avoid other traffic.
At around 5:50 p.m., the suspect got onto the 110 Freeway before transitioning onto the 105.
About 10 minutes later, they drove into a tunnel leading to the LAX passenger drop-off area before exiting and heading towards Westchester.
At around 6:40 p.m., the passenger in the vehicle exited the car and ran on foot near W. 24th Street and Hill Street in Central City. Some officers rushed the vehicle and pulled the driver from the car and put him in handcuffs, while other officers pursued the running suspect.
It's unclear where, but police reported that they had the second suspect in custody about five minutes after he ran on foot.
